About UrbanKit Studio

UrbanKit Studio was built by a planner who got tired of the clunky, expensive workflows involved in generating public notice mailing lists. What should take minutes—buffering parcels, pulling owner addresses, deduplicating, and printing labels—often takes hours using legacy GIS tools or expensive subscription software.

Our mission is to make essential planning tools accessible to everyone: small municipalities that can't afford enterprise GIS, solo practitioners handling their first variance application, and community members who want to participate in the planning process. Every tool is free, runs entirely in the browser, and requires no account or personal information.

What is public notice radius notification?: Most cities and counties require that property owners within a certain distance of a proposed development be notified of upcoming public hearings. Typical distances range from 200 to 500 feet, though requirements vary by jurisdiction and project type (variances, CUPs, rezonings, subdivisions).
Where do I get parcel GeoJSON data?: Check your county assessor or GIS department—many offer free parcel downloads through open data portals. State GIS clearinghouses and services like Regrid.com also provide parcel data. If you have a Shapefile, convert to GeoJSON using mapshaper.org or QGIS.
What are Avery 5160 labels?: Avery 5160 is the most popular mailing label format in the US. Each 8.5" × 11" sheet contains 30 labels (1" × 2⅝" each) arranged in a 3×10 grid. They work with both inkjet and laser printers and are sold at office supply stores, Amazon, and Avery's website.
